Waders are shorebirds that hang out on the coastline, mostly in shallow water and in mudflats where they forage for food. We spend a lot of time on a creek that has herons and egrets and one thing that strikes me about wading birds is how much time they spend standing still. If I had to search for dinner, I’d be on the move. But not these birds. Wading birds don’t wade so much as they just stand there with their feet in the water. And they don’t forage so much as they just stay put and observe. There’s an economy of movement to these birds. They’re still still still and then they strike.
Watching a heron recently, I wonder what it would be like to have so little wasted motion. What would it be like to be deliberate, but not frantic? And this, of course, has me thinking about Dream Projects.
