Brainstorm Road is OPEN and taking new members. To learn more, click here. The fun begins on April 8th.
We’re at a stalemate because Kristin keeps winning (which is not a stalemate, it means I lose, but I don’t like admitting that so I’m calling it a stalemate).
I’m team 3-months because I like sprints and it’s easier to sell. Kristin is team 6-months because she is the OG who ran a 6-month program for years and witnessed firsthand what can happen when you teach people how to show up for themselves.
We’ve run the Brainstorm Road community for nearly two years now and every time members tell me why Kristin is correct; and while my ego is very irritated by this, my heart is FULL:
“I went from being a person who dreamed about it to a person who did it.” - Courtney D., Filmmaker + Author
“Whether I nail it every week or not is completely beside the point. It’s about chipping away.” - Brian D.
“It's blowing my mind, I now have three things that look like chapters and this book proposal might be in the shape that I can show it to people before the summer." - Michelle F., Decision Engineer
It’s remarkable where people find themselves in six months.
Brainstorm Road is a creative community for everyday people with Dream Projects. We are organized around taking one tiny action a week on a project that lights you up.
If you set a timer for 10 minutes a day, something will be different at the end of six months.
Your project will be in a different place. You will be in a different place. You will believe different things about what's possible and what’s required to do creative work.
Kristin knew this.
I’m learning not to question her instincts and in the meantime here’s what I’ve observed: People overcommit and underdeliver on the goals they set for themselves (except me, I don’t do this). And 6 months is needed to learn how to navigate life beyond sprinting.
Just like an 8-week diet “works” until it’s over and you go back to all the unhealthy habits you had before, a three-month sprint “works” until it’s over and you go back to all the procrastination habits you had before.

Last week, we wrapped up a celebration call with Roadies who hit their 6-month membership mark and I WASN’T CRYING YOU ARE CRYING.
“I love Brainstorm Road because this is a space I can just be myself, start projects that I want to do, and organize groups...There's so much support." - Jessica Zou
“I’ve done more in six months with Brainstorm Road than I have in the past six years.” - Josh A., Designer, Builder, Engineer
People have completed manuscripts, published podcasts, submitted movie scripts, put out music, finished websites, invented games, started painting daily, and completely transformed their relationship with their creativity and themselves.
We made a rule that there is no such thing as being behind. There is only where you are right now and holding onto the intention to return to your creative practice.
“Knowing I have this space and there will be people here and I will be welcomed back and knowing there is no such thing as behind was really powerful.” - Michelle F.
There 👏 is 👏 no 👏 such 👏 thing 👏 as 👏 behind.

Gabe comes to our Create Live sessions every Monday, which you can join if you’re a member. We host them on Mondays and Wednesdays. They’re voluntary and fun. Children are allowed and encouraged because school is always off for some random teacher-in-session day. My daughter was at the last one. She drew. I worked on this post. C'est la vie.

I am obsessed with Brainstorm Road, because of the quality of the people who are attracted to it and stay on it, because of the warmth, wisdom and wit of the founders and facilitator (hi, Margo, Kristin, and Rick, respectively), and because I GET SO MUCH S—T DONE! Also, NOT being on Brainstorm Road is a much lonelier journey. A lot of my (dream) activities are solitary—writing, editing, painting—and it makes all the difference to have a fun, intelligent, supportive group of friends with whom to give and receive support and encouragement. At any moment you want to engage with another person who is in the trenches and is uncomfortable but excited but nervous but going for it, you can jump onto the Road (Discourse platform!). It’s like walking into an all-night coffee shop, or the bar in Cheers, and finding someone to chat with, about your pet topic: your dream project(s)!
