Routine gives us a way in.
Once we’re in, we realize our potential is greater than we imagined. And that ten minutes is enough time to get more than a few sentences down.
It’s like a novice painter selecting a canvas size. Imagine this eager but inexperienced painter standing before a blank wall. Too much blank space! They’re terrified. So little of me and so much surface to cover, they think. But if someone walked up to the person who would like to one day be a painter and handed them an index card, well, they might be able to put some paint on that.
That’s all we’re looking for. The posture of, okay I might be able to do something with that. That’s where we begin. Ten minutes is our container for today.
Then there is an objection: But I’ll never write The Great American Novel by writing for only 10 minutes!
Stop. Not today. This is not the day you write your magnum opus. This is the day you write a paragraph or two.
It’s good to have dreams. But first, we need to begin. We need to learn to trust ourselves. And that happens ten minutes at a time. Get your phone and set a timer. Now pick up your phone and move it all the way across the room. Sit down and write*. Ten minutes. That’s it. Go.
*write, draw, sketch, dance, edit, publish, paint, photograph, stencil, cut, move, break apart, glue together, sing, record, run, sew, play your ukelele, buy beads, make jewelry, post a photo of your jewelry, open a square space account. Whatever your verb. 10 minutes. Go.

One Small Thing
Get your phone and set a timer. Now pick up your phone and move it all the way across the room.
Sit down and do one small thing for your dream project.
Ten minutes.
That’s it.
Go.

Brainstorm Road is taking new members 🥳. We’re a 6-month program for finishing your Dream Project. Hundreds of members in the past year finished projects they've dreamt about doing for years (see some of the works in progress here).
We have been blown away at the community, comradery, and support that's emerged inside the space. Learn more about the program, the people, and how to become a member here.
We begin September 18th. Come join us.
Happy Friday,
