Me too. I'm curious how much of this is dispositional and how much is learned. From what we've seen in BSR, you can learn to get more comfortable putting work in front of an audience. Still, I think some people are born with a level of disagreeableness (so they dont mind disappointing others) and self-worth (not identified with their work) where they aren't as personally wounded when a joke doesn't land or a piece is rejected.
He definitely seems to have these Teflon traits! Wow. What an interesting angle to approach “grit” from!! I’m tripping! It’s weird because he clearly does want to create work that people love OR work that otherwise succeeds. But evidently he can withstand small groups not loving the work as he develops it. Fascinating!! Can you talk to him, to find out more?!
I just saw an article about Tiger Woods where he shared that he routinely made 4' putts in practice, often up to 200 a day.
Respect the process.
Thanks for a thought-provoking post.
200x!!! wow.
"Genius is an infinite capacity for taking pains." Love that he fearlessly tests his material in front of live audiences constantly. That's awesome.
