I always wanted to be the sort of person who sat in nature and painted.
This seemed like a good thing to do in retirement.
Then I realized that age wasn’t a prerequisite and neither was not having a job.
So I decided to become that person — and it was much easier than anticipated.
I bought myself a watercolor set for my birthday.
I took a watercolor class at a local museum. This wasn’t even necessary. I signed up not looking for a how-to as much as a commitment to begin.
A few weeks later I sat by the Merced River and painted.
And in that moment I thought to myself, I am being the person I want to be.
The paintings were good – or not – and it didn’t matter. I was being who I wanted to be. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that.
Who do you dream of one day being?
Can you be her today?
This week?
This fall?

More next week :)
Yaaaas, more painters in the world is a great thing. Why wait to do what you love?
The pride and joy that comes from finally, actually, truly "being who you want to be" is incredible. I love that you have begun painting. I paint, too, and have struggled to get back into a regular practice. That's one of my goals for the next session of Brainstorm Road.
